End Point Assessment

Everything employers need to know about LGV Level 2 Endpoint Assessment

Apprenticeship Standard: Large Goods Vehicle(LGV) Driver
Level: 2

Skills for Logistics is an End Point Assessment Organisation approved by the Education and Skills Funding Agency to deliver the end point assessment for the Large Goods Vehicle(LGV) Driver Trailblazer Apprenticeship.

We are listed on the Register of End Point Assessment Organisations (RoEPAO) which means that if you are a levy-paying employer we are eligible to receive monies that you have paid into your digital account.

We are also seeking approval so that we will be able to offer end point assessment for the Supply Chain Warehouse Operative and the Supply Chain Operator.

Employer EPA Information

EPA is the independent and objective assessment carried out after your apprentice has completed their training.

The aim of the assessment process is to confirm full competence in terms of the apprentices’ skills, knowledge and behaviour.

Your apprentice is not allowed to take their end point assessment until they have completed a minimum of 12 months of training.

This is the point at which your apprentice is ready for end point assessment. When your apprentice has met all the requirements of the Large Goods Vehicle(LGV) Driver Standard and after 12 months of training, you and your training provider sign off the apprentice.
Apprentices must have completed their Category C driving test before progressing to the end point assessment. This is mandatory for all apprentices. Some employers may also require their apprentices to have completed Cat C+E.
Apprentices must also have completed relevant English and maths qualifications.

The EPA has two parts:
Knowledge and Behaviours Test; the test is a mix of structured short answer and scenario based questions.

Driving Test; a practical test of driver skills.

Both parts of the EPA are worth the same. The test is to be undertaken in examination conditions.

About the EPA Test

Your apprentice will receive a grade after the end point assessment.

The grades are:

A pass is awarded where the learner has achieved 70% in the knowledge assessment and 70% in the practical assessment.
A distinction is awarded to the apprentice who is deemed “high-performing”. They must achieve 90% in both parts of the end point assessment.
If your apprentice fails one part of the assessment, they will only need to retake the part that they have failed.

You should allow one day for your apprentice to complete the end point assessment. The knowledge test takes an hour. The knowledge and behaviours test will normally be delivered as an on-line test, but paper based tests may be available upon request to meet learner requirements.
The practical driving test will take place in a large goods vehicle and will test the apprentice’s practical ability to prepare, drive and control the vehicle in various on-road situations.

The government requires that the End Point Assessment will cost no more than 20% of the funding available for the Standard. The Large Goods Vehicle (LGV) Driver is in funding band 7 which means that it is eligible for £5000 of funding. Therefore, Skills for Logistics will not charge more than £1000 for both parts of the assessment.
