How do we support apprentices?

Instead of being assessed continually throughout your course, the apprentice will do an End-Point Assessment (EPA) to achieve their apprenticeship qualification.

The End-Point Assessment allows apprentices to test the skills, knowledge, and behaviours they've gained throughout their apprenticeship. The apprentice will be graded according to their performance against specific criteria, which your training provider will advise and support you.

Our End-Point Assessments are delivered by VTCT, a government-registered EPAO, for the following standards:

  • Level 2 Large Goods Vehicle (LGV) Driver
  • Level 2 Urban Driver (UD)
  • Level 2 Supply Chain Operator (SCO)
  • Level 2 Supply Chain Warehouse Operative (SCWO)
  • Level 2 Express Delivery Operative (EDO)
  • Level 3 Transport/Warehouse Operations Supervisor (TWOS)
  • Level 3 Supply Chain Practitioner (SCP)
  • Level 3 Team Leader/Supervisor (TL/S)
  • Level 3 International Freight Forwarding Specialist (IFFS)
  • Level 3 Procurement Supply Assistant (PSA)
  • Level 4 Commercial Procurement & Supply (CPS)

To support each apprentice to prepare and achieve their best grades, Skills for Logistics has created a series of revision and mock paper exams, to cover the different standards.

Start

You’ll be employed by your company and signed up to a specific apprenticeship programme, and assigned to an approved training provider and learning mentor.

During your apprenticeship programme, you will complete both on and off-the-job training, providing you with the essential knowledge, skills, and behaviours (KSBs) which are vital to your future career.

Simultaneously, you’ll prepare for your End-Point Assessment.

Gateway

The ‘gateway’ is the point at which you, your employer, and your training provider agree you have met all the requirements of your apprenticeship standard.

This will include your core knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs). Skills for Logistics will verify your eligibility for the gateway, and thereafter schedule your EPA in conjunction with your employer and training provider.

EPA

Each apprenticeship standard has a different EPA plan. To make it easier for learners to prepare for their assessment day, their information, advice and guidance are provided in interactive videos on our online portal.

In addition, learners can perform mock tests enabling learners to best prepare for their final EPA knowledge test. The EPA usually consists of a knowledge and behaviours test, and a workplace observation.

The role of Skills for Logistics is to ensure the assessment is completely independent of the training delivery and is of a consistent quality wherever and whenever the EPA is undertaken.

After the EPA

Once you have completed both parts of the EPA, Skills for Logistics will inform your employer and training provider of your results.

We will then apply for the certificate via the Education Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) which will issue a certificate directly to your employer.
